The Impact of a Scholarship

Recipient of the Lucretia Smith Scholarship

I was a recipient of the Lucretia Smith Scholarship, and I am so incredibly thankful.

Words cannot describe how much this scholarship meant to me. Without this, I would have to take out an extraordinary amount of student loans.

This scholarship meant I did not have to spend my semester worrying and stressing about how I was going to pay for my education and can focus on pouring my heart into preparing for my career as an educator. This scholarship helped me have the most amazing opportunity of my college career, which was studying abroad.

This scholarship meant the world to me and I am so grateful for the kindness and generosity this family has shown me throughout my college career.

Lucretia (Brown) Smith graduated from State Teachers College in 1940 with a degree in Business Education. Both sons (Richard '67 and David '79) are alumni. Mrs. Smith passed away in 2011. In 2012, we received money from her estate to create the Lucretia Smith Scholarship fund. Since then, the fund has aided more than 14 students in their quest to become future educators. The list continues to grow annually.
