Touching the Lives of Thousands

Mary Myketiuk

The late Christa McAuliffe once said, “I touch the future. I teach.”

Mary Myketiuk graduated from the New Jersey State Teachers College at Trenton in 1934 (when we were on Clinton Avenue). She was a sister of Sigma Sigma Sorority as well as Kappa Delta Pi Educational Honor Society. She also was a Seal (college yearbook) staff member.

After graduation, Mary embarked on a long and successful educational career here in New Jersey. Throughout her career, she changed the lives of thousands of students. Mary passed away in 2004, but she continues to impact student lives today and will do so far into the future.

Mary left a trust to The College of New Jersey Foundation, Inc. that provides scholarships to education majors at the College. Since her passing, more than 100 students have directly benefited from her generosity. Those future teachers will carry Mary’s powerful legacy into their own classrooms, influencing the next generation of teachers just like her.

In the 1934 Seal, some students had a single word associated with their name. The word MEMORY was the one attached to Mary’s. With a gift in her estate plan, she confirmed that she will always be a fond memory to many. She continues to touch the future with her ongoing legacy.

Just like Mary, you, too, can touch the lives of future students with a gift from your estate plan. For more information on planned giving opportunities, contact Jim Spencer, CAP® at 609-771-3285 or jspencer@tcnj.edu.
